Tai Poutini Polytechnic is looking for a Carpentry Tutor to pass on their expertise and knowledge to students who are seeking careers in the building and construction industries.

Don’t have teaching experience? No worries, we offer support to gain your level 5 teaching qualification, free of charge, while you work!

This role is flexible to suit you, with permanent, fixed term or casual opportunities available!

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi – About the role

As a Carpentry Tutor you will primarily be responsible for teaching and supporting students working towards their level three New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills in preparation for joining the construction industry as an apprentice.

The key focus of this role is specific to providing elementary skills in the Carpentry areas. These are primarily delivered on campus as face-to-face practical and theory learning sessions. Some delivery of distance learning may be required.

You will be joining a supportive and hands on team, with professional development opportunities.

  • Significant recent practical Carpentry industry experience
  • Vision, innovation, and a commitment to facilitating learning
  • Support students to achieve their learning goals
  • The ability to develop and implement flexible teaching and learning methods, including the use of learning technologies
  • Time management skills, including the ability to organise activities effectively and efficiently, meeting deadlines
  • Engagement with assessment and feedback processes
  • Teaching experience desirable, but training and support offer for the right person
  • Competent computer skills –including Microsoft Office products.

Our ideal candidate will be working or have recently worked in the industry and hold a recognised Trade Qualification. You will bring with you a high level of industry knowledge and practical skills. You will use your knowledge and skills in the building and construction industries to enhance and expand student learning experiences.

Your qualifications and extensive industry experience in building and construction are essential to your success in this role. Training and support will be provided to assist you in succeeding in this role.
