We offer a variety of awards and scholarships to assist our students across many different study areas.

If you’re thinking of studying with us, we have a variety of scholarships to assist you. Some of these are for any programme of study while others relate to specific qualifications or entry requirements.

Student awards and scholarships are offered each year for those attending full-time programmes at Tai Poutini Polytechnic to receive financial assistance. You must meet the eligibility criteria stated in the terms of reference for each award to be considered.

Cave Creek Student Memorial Scholarships

The Cave Creek Student Memorial Fund was established to honour the 13 TPP Outdoor Recreation students who lost their lives when a viewing platform collapsed at Cave Creek on the West Coast on 28 April 1995.

Students enrolling in any full-time outdoor pursuits programme (NZ Certificate in Outdoor and Adventure Education, NZ Diploma in Outdoor and Adventure Education, or the NZ Certificate in Snowsport Patrol and Avalanche Risk Management) at Tai Poutini Polytechnic are eligible to apply for one of up to 5 academic scholarships. All applicants are required to be New Zealand citizens. The value of the scholarships will vary – in the past few years the amount awarded has been between $1,000 and $1,300 each for programme fees or course-related costs and expenses.

South Westland Community Activities Trust

South Westland Community Activities Trust Entrance Awards
Three annual awards of up to $1,000 each will be made to students enrolled in, or preparing to enrol in a full-time programme of at least 17 weeks' duration at one of TPP's West Coast campuses.  The awards are made solely to assist with programme fees, course-related costs or expenses.

South Westland Community Activities Trust Attendance Assistance Awards
Four annual awards of up to $800 each (or $200 per term) will be made to assist with costs associated in attending a full-time programme of at least 17 weeks' duration at one of TPP's West Coast campuses. The awards are made solely to assist with costs associated for that student to attend their programme for example – travel, child care, etc.

West Coast Trades Academy Training Scholarships

Tai Poutini Polytechnic will sponsor one West Coast Trades Academy Training Scholarship of $1,000 to assist a Tai Poutini Polytechnic Trades Academy student study at Tai Poutini Polytechnic. The money can be credited directly towards programme fees, compulsory courses-related costs or expenses (for example - Tai Poutini Polytechnic student accommodation rental, course-related tools or materials), and may not be applied to any non-academic purpose. Evidence of purchase of any course-related tools or materials will need to be submitted. 

The scholarship will be awarded to a high school student who:

  • has demonstrated a high level of achievement in their TPP Trades Academy programme;
  • is committed to developing a career in their elected Trades Academic course of study; and
  • wishes to pursue further training and education at Tai Poutini Polytechnic.

External Awards and Scholarships

Kā Pūtea Scholarships

Kā Pūtea Scholarships are available to all registered Ngāi Tahu members who are currently enrolled and studying towards a NZQA recognised tertiary qualification or an international equivalent. The scholarships aim to support higher learning and help students connect with their Ngāi Tahutanga.

 Kā Pūtea Scholarships are awarded based on applicants’ academic achievements and their engagement with whānau, hapū or iwi-related activities. To find out more information click here

Greymouth Rotary Tertiary Scholarship

Applications are invited from persons enrolled in or considering undertaking tertiary or further studies for the 2024 year. Greymouth Rotary is a service organisation and scholarship preference will be given to persons who are involved in and give back to our community, who have shown a community mindedness through giving back as well as participation. Applicants should reside in or have home connections to the Grey District.

Applicants should be under 25 years of age and be studying at University, Polytechnic or towards a Trade. Applicants may be studying at any level within these organisations, this scholarship is not restricted to first year students.

This scholarship will be for a minimum of $1,000 and there may be more than one scholarship awarded.
