Carpentry Tutor - Level 3 Programme

Tai Poutini Polytechnic is seeking a motivated and experienced Carpentry Tutor to deliver the New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Carpentry) Level 3 programme in Greymouth. This role is ideal for someone passionate about the building industry who enjoys sharing their knowledge and supporting the next generation of tradespeople.
About the role
As a Carpentry Tutor, you’ll deliver both practical and theory-based training to learners developing the foundational skills needed for apprenticeships or employment in the construction industry. You’ll bring enthusiasm, professionalism, and strong organisational skills to ensure classes run smoothly and meet all programme and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, hands-on carpentry training
- Support learners to develop industry-relevant skills and confidence
- Assess student work and maintain programme documentation
- Develop lesson plans, resources, and assessments
- Maintain a safe, tidy and well-organised workshop environment
- Ensure compliance with NZQA, health & safety, and organisational policies
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support learner success
- Build positive relationships with local employers and community groups
- Contribute to student recruitment activities (e.g., open days, school visits)
Skills/Experience

A recognised carpentry or building qualification (or equivalent experience)

Strong background in the construction industry

Excellent communication and mentoring skills

A genuine interest in teaching and supporting learners

Ability to work well as part of a team

Unit Standard 4098 and the NZ/National Certificate in Adult Education (Level 4 or 5), or willingness to complete these

Full Class 1 NZ Driver Licence

Teaching experience is an advantage, but full training and support can be provided
