2023 Recipients
We would like to congratulate Kyla Rayward on receiving the Cave Creek Student Memorial Excellence Award for 2023 and Lewis Watson for receiving the 2023 Tim Jamieson Memorial Medal for excellence in kayaking. These students were presented with their awards at the recent Outdoor Education closing ceremony.
Cave Creek Student Memorial Excellence Award for 2023 – Kyla Rayward, NZ Diploma in Outdoor Adventure and Education
Kyla was nominated for this award based on her academic achievements, plus her contribution to the broader aspects of the outdoor education programmes during the year. Her programme tutors commenced that "Kyla is a remarkable individual who serves as a shining example to her peers, blending exceptional athletic abilities with a profound passion for education. What sets Kyla apart is her genuine desire to become an outstanding educator. Her enthusiasm, empathy, and love for learning make her a promising candidate for shaping the future of education. Kyla exemplifies the values and qualities that this honour represents."

2023 Tim Jamieson Memorial Medal for excellence in kayaking – Lewis Watson, NZ Diploma in Outdoor Adventure and Education
Lewis was nominated for this award based on his overall excellence in both kayaking technical ability as well as his commitment to the pursuit and the programme. His programme tutors commented that "Lewis embodies the true spirit of West Coast kayak culture, servicing as an exceptional role model for those around him. He is passionate and driven, dedicated to the progression of kayaking. His unwavering commitment to the sport is inspiring. What sets Lewis apart is, not only his kayaking prowess, but also his character. He spreads enthusiasm and positivity on the river and puts others first".
