The ability to safely and competently calculate, sling, lift and control crane lifts on-site is a critical skill in the crane industry.

You’ll learn how to calculate regular loads correctly, understand the technical aspects of slinging and lifting regular loads, and use internationally recognised communications methods to control crane operations on the work site, all while identifying potential hazards and adjusting to environmental change.

Known in the industry as the “Rigger/Dogman course”, and targeted at people who already have some workplace experience, our focus is on the individual student and we’ll work with you until you’re ready to take your new skills onto the job site.

You’ll be able to:

  • Calculate weights or regular loads.
  • Prepare and plan for lifts
  • Safely sling and lift different types of regular loads
  • Direct and control crane operations throughout the lift
  • Use a "constant talk method" of radio communication with crane operators
  • Use international hand signals
