Ski Patrol Graduate
Programme attended: Ski Patrol (Level 5)
Since he was a child French man Ollie Gourand has dreamt of travelling in New Zealand. The 29 year old came to New Zealand in 2011 and now he has fulfilled another dream and begun studying in Wanaka for a Certificate in Ski Patrol.
“When I was in France I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life but when I got to New Zealand and heard about the Ski Patrol programme I knew it was exactly what I had been thinking about."
While Ollie has been skiing since he was a young boy, English is his second language but he is enjoying the challenge of studying in another language.
“It is awesome to be studying in English, everyday I discover a new word and learn about Kiwi’s. The Ski patrol course is fantastic, we learn about the mountain, skiing, weather and first-aid, it is a different way of learning from France, there are a lot more practical experiences.”
Ollie says his friends back in France are jealous when they hear how much he is enjoying himself and some are even thinking of coming over as well. When he graduates he hopes to go back to Europe and get a ski patrol job in Switzerland, but he promises he will be back the following winter to work in the New Zealand mountains.
