TPP breakfast kick-starts annual Bluelight Big Day Out

Tai Poutini Polytechnic has once again got behind the annual Bluelight Big Day Out, providing a great breakfast to start the day.

Organised by local Police, every year Greymouth Bluelight asks local schools to select students who have worked hard all year to take part in the Big Day Out – a day of fun activities with a focus on emergency services. TPP has supported the event in recent years by inviting participants to a breakfast on campus, prepared by Culinary Arts students.

TPP Leader – Engagement Mequa Hourston says the initiative is all about building relationships in the community and TPP is very supportive of it.

“We are lucky to live in such a wonderful region here on the West Coast and TPP is keen to support and assist all sorts of local activities and events. The annual Bluelight Big Day Out is a great way for local Police to interact with young people and we’re really happy we can be a part of that.

“This morning’s breakfast was great fun and thanks go to our Cookery tutors and students for putting on a yummy buffet for our guests,” she says.

Greymouth Bluelight runs a range of charitable programmes with the aim of raising self esteem among young people, encouraging better relations between young people, parents, police and the community, and preventing crime and antisocial behaviour.
