Inspiring Communities Workshop

Explore how to run meetings and workshops that are fun and informative, working with ways that really involve community members, by taking part in a Facilitating Community‐led Change workshop in Greymouth this month.

Aimed at anyone who is active in the community – charity groups, locally elected representatives, district councils and more – the workshop will help you learn how to bring people together and get great results from community events.

The Monday 22 July workshop is a partnership between Tai Poutini Polytechnic (TPP), Grey District Council, Core, Community Trust South and Inspiring Communities. TPP Leader – Engagement Mequa Hourston says there has been strong interest in the event, but there’s still time for people to sign‐up.

“TPP is here to support the local community and help make events like this happen. It’s a great opportunity for people working in and with community to learn skills and techniques to help create some great outcomes for the region.”

This workshop will help participants to: create cohesive groups; polish their role as a facilitator; explore approaches that build common agendas; learn participation techniques; deal with difficult behaviour and conflict.

Inspiring Communities’ Cissy Rock says the workshop covers the basic principles of community‐led change and helps people learn facilitation skills that allow them to get things happening.

“There are always challenges to getting a project or initiative off the ground, particularly when you’re working with a diverse range of people with different skills and approaches. The workshop teaches participants how to work through these challenges, bring communities together and get results.

“We all have different strengths and areas of focus, but at the end of the day it’s common to find that people have shared visions and goals. By using techniques that help to bridge our differences, we can get some truly great outcomes.”
