Creativity on show at annual jade exhibition

Stunning sculptures, carvings, art and jewellery from this year’s Tai Poutini Polytechnic (TPP) jade and hard stone carving students will be on public display in early December.

The annual TPP Jade and Hard Stone Carving Exhibition is a showcase of student efforts throughout the year. Past exhibitions have presented award-winning works from local students. In 2020, visitors to the show will once again be able to view and purchase one-off pieces of art.

TPP Tutor Sheree Warren says the quality of work produced by the students continues to get better and better as new training delivery beds-in.

“We’re now in our second year of the revamped programme, putting a greater emphasis on design and pushing students to explore their creativity alongside gaining the key technical skills.

“The result is some truly spectacular pieces of art that I know the community will enjoy and admire.”

The work of this year’s students will be on display at the Left Bank Art Gallery in Greymouth from 4 – 16 December 2020. Visitors to the exhibition can view or purchase the pieces on display.

“We’re really looking forward to once again inviting the community in to be part of our work. The exhibition is an important culmination of the year’s work for our students – it’s their opportunity to show their expertise and creativity to an audience and they enjoy interacting with visitors,” Sheree says.
