Whether you’re just starting out in your career, or you’ve been in your job for a while and want to take the next step, it’s always good to think about learning new skills.
Winter is a great time to hunker down and focus on a training programme that will help you boost your future job prospects. There are a range of training providers on the West Coast, many of whom have new programmes and courses starting over the winter months.
You’ll find options at Tai Poutini Polytechnic (TPP), Front-Line Training Consultancy (formerly Karoro Learning), WestREAP, BullerREAP, Westport Deep Sea Fishing School, West Coast Tech Space and a variety of other Industry Training Organisations.
TPP’s General Manager West Coast, Teresa Schwellnus, says the benefits of extra training are universal and can make a real difference for people.
“In the current environment, people really need to get themselves trained – employers are always looking for skilled staff, whether you’re just out of school or already in employment. There are loads of options out there, it’s up to you to make the most of what’s on offer.”
New programmes starting at June and July at TPP include:
- Tourism and Hospitality
The West Coast tourism market is booming and regional businesses need skilled staff to help them serve and entertain a growing number of visitors. In addition to standard programmes, TPP is offering a new Level 4 Tourism programme part-time for the first time in July this year, perfect for people already in the business who want boost their career prospects. The Food and Beverage programme, including restaurant and café training, will also start in July.
- Health and Beauty
Prepare yourself to taking on higher-level health training with our mid-year Pre-Health and Science programme. Or consider our Hair, Beauty and Grooming programme, with great local contacts to help you get a foot in the door to this busy industry.
- Business and Computing
A range of programmes are on offer across the business administration, management and computing disciplines that will suit your level of skill. Some classes are also offered after-hours, to suit people who are already working.
- Other programmes
We’re offering mid- year programmes in Animal Husbandry, Digger School Civil and Mining programmes, and short courses in Driver Education and First Aid (free funding may apply in some cases). Courses in Early Childhood Education may also be on offer.
